Let's Take a Walk

A walk round Singapore - you may think this is easy. Well, think again. The challenge of a 100km walk round Singapore within 28 hours? A group of us took up the challenge and lived to tell our stories and share our photos (this can be hyperlinked to the LTAW website with our photos).

Let's take A Walk is Raleigh Society's first local community service project in 2004. After almost 6 months of intensive planning by about 10 Raleigh members, Let's Take A Walk took place during the weekend of 26-27 June 2004.

The walk commenced at 7.30am on 26 June from Dover Park Hospice, one of the beneficiaries of the fund-raising event and ended at 11am on 27 June at Suntec City Fountain of Wealth.

The event brought participants of all ages from all walks of life, walking together in groups of at least 4, round Singapore from the central to the west, north, east and finally south. Along the way, enthusiastic and cheerful volunteers and supporters were on hand to provide moral, nutritional and comfort support. Food baskets and drinks were readily provided. There were even masseuses on hand to provide comfort and relief to aching and tired muscles.

After the 2 day event, a total of S$37,208.61 was raised for the 2 beneficiaries - Dover Park Hospice and Singapore After-Care Association (SANA).

Enthusiastic responses and feedback were received from participants and volunteers for an encore event next year. So shall we take a walk together next year?
