Dear Raleigh friends,
It's two weeks since EOGM and I would like to keep everyone updated on the broad plans that the 2009-2011 Executive Committee will be working on for the next two years.
First, on behalf of the 2009-2011 Executive Committee, please allow me to express our appreciation for Sheau Wen, the immediate past President of Raleigh Society, and the 2007-2009 Executive Committee for the contributions to Raleigh Society over the past two years. Under Sheau Wen's leadership, the team, together with all the members' support and contributions, not only brought back the flagship 3-weeks expedition and organised a Lets Take A Walk (LTAW) with the record number of participants, the team also put in place a supporting system that will form the platform for the society to move to the next level.
We have a great team in the 2009-2011 Executive Committee and we are all committed to work together to realise the mission of Raleigh Society. A team of staff volunteers have been formed in preparation for Operation Vannakam 2010, with training for them starting very soon. Registration for LTAW 2010 has begun, with the second training walk just completed. A team of 11 will be representing Raleigh Society in the Wilson Trail organised by Raleigh Hong Kong next month. We are resolved to implement a series of other programmes and initiatives, which we target to roll out slowly over our term, both to engage our members and the larger general public.
We look forward to everyone's support for the exciting two years ahead.
Cheers
Daniel
President 2009-2011

Dear Op V friends, Its one week after Induction Camp and I can't help be reminded about the Induction Camp that I attended back in 2001 for my first Raleigh expedition to Tibet. I remember the daunting tasks that we faced just after the camp - fundraising, sub-comm preparation, etc. But, I also remember the great fun that we had while fundraising together and the amazing friendships that we started to develop while preparing together. I also remember the immense satisfaction that we felt just before leaving for expedition because of all the hard work that we had put in together as a group, as a phase, as an expedition. When we left, it no longer felt like we were a group put together for an expedition; we had grown together, and went for the expedition as a team with a common goal and heartbeat. I remember how this 2001 expedition was such an awesome "life-changing" experience that I was inspired to sign up for the much longer 3-month expedition immediately. I remember how I had to keep postponing my departure date for this 3-month expedition till after graduation in 2006. I remember how I waited 5 years before I finally got to go for the 3-month expedition to Namibia. I remember how much both my expeditions meant to me, how much difference they have made to me, how much they have shaped my life thus far, and how much they have inspired me to to do what I'm doing. I remember how challenging, at times even overwhelming, I found the pre-expedition preparations to be but, above all, I also know how much they have contributed to the entire expedition experience and the tremendous meaning I derived from them. I remember... and now I know that everything is worth it. Hope everyone is having lots of fun with fundraising and all! Cheers Daniel Tags: Hits: 335 | Read more... |
