Have you been on a holiday where you take away more than photographs and souvenirs and leave more than your footprints?
Fancy an alternative holiday experience to do something challenging, exciting and yet meaningful and leave something constructive behind in the host country and bringing back unforgettable smiles and local stories as souvenirs?
Here’s an opportunity to do the above and more and live the alternative with Operation Vannakam 2010!
Operation Vannakam 2010 is a service expedition to India organized by Raleigh Society in partnership with Centre for Tribal and Rural Development (CTRD) Trust (India).
Operation Vannakam 2010 will continue the good work of Operation Vannakam 2009, where a team of more than 50 venturers, together with local masons and villagers, built a hospital for tribal villagers in the Nilgiri Mountains, Tamil Nadu, India. This hospital serves to fulfill the need of accessible medical care for the villagers. Operation Vannakam 2010 will be Stage Two of the same hospital construction project
Having spent three weeks there, we know how challenging & exciting the experience can be! We laid the rocks that formed the foundation. We placed the bricks that shaped the hospital. In addition, we were involved in the project in many other ways! We planned and cooked meals for everyone. We also took care of the environment that we lived in. It was an expedition that we gladly claimed as “ours”! The experience is so unique that we want you to experience it too!
The project will take five weeks, in two phases. The tentative dates for Phase 1 are 15 May - 04 Jun 2010, and for Phase 2 are 30 May-19 Jun 2010.
Application is open from now till 15th January 2010, for anyone aged between 17-35.
Step up and live the alternative! Be a part of Operation Vannakam 2010!
